Education and research

For any economy to truthfully claim to be based on ideas, the two areas of education and research must be taken very seriously.

Education is where minds are stimulated and trained. Educational bodies must be fully aware of the global context within which current ideas are being formed and published. Education’s need to engage fully with the contemporary world means it must have strong established links to other similar bodies around the world. In order to do this any University with creative courses must attract and cater for the needs of foreign students and must show itself to be relevant in the global context.

Research is fundamental to all ideas creation and nowhere more so than in specialist fields of scientific research. Research facilities have to invest heavily in powerful supercomputers which are often attached to Universities while many large corporations need to buy time on these facilities to run simulations and advanced modelling.

Scientific research and invention is an important part of any creative economy. Creative thought is not limited to the arts. The processes of imagination and inspiration are not confined to specific disciplines. In a fully functioning ideas based economy, scientists, musicians, designers, architects, film makers, inventors, game players and programmers will interact with each other, sharing ideas and creating an atmosphere of positive investment in new, barrier breaking concepts.
